Biography

James L. Soucy is a Senior Counsel in the Manchester office of GRSM and is a member of the Construction and the Product & General Liability practice groups. His practice focuses on providing legal counsel to and representation of architects, engineers, design professionals, general contractors, and subcontractors, in connection with general liability, contract disputes, and construction defect litigation. James uses his prior experience in the construction and land development fields to add depth and breadth of scope to his legal representation of his clients.

James is committed to achieving the best result for his clients through detailed preparation and knowing and strategically and efficiently using the litigation process. He has more than two decades of experience as a litigator, successfully representing clients from inception through trial, in New Hampshire state and federal courts and in Massachusetts state courts, including first-chair civil jury trials to numerous defense verdicts, as well as over 100 administrative hearings and appeals.

James has represented hundreds of clients in defending against personal injury and property damage claims and motor vehicle & premises liability claims. In addition, He regularly assists and represents clients in real property disputes, zoning and land use approvals, and probate administration and litigation.

Outside of his litigation practice, James puts his skills in preparation and attention to detail advising clients in estate planning and wealth transfer, creating estate plans that allow his clients to maintain control of assets, realize legacy goals, and minimize the impact of probate administration.

James earned his J.D. from the University of New Hampshire, Franklin Pierce Law Center and his B.A. from Saint Anselm College. A native of New Hampshire and a true New Englander, James enjoys all that New Hampshire’s outdoors has to offer. James is an avid trail bike rider, volunteering his time as a member and Officer of the Merrimack Valley Trail Riders Association, which has raised over $2.75M for the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation through charity events, and leads maintenance efforts at the Hopkinton-Everett Riding Area in Dunbarton, NH. During the winter, James and his wife Kathy (having met while both ski instructors) and their family enjoy downhill skiing.
