Gordon & Rees Welcomes Seventeen New Attorneys in April 2021

In April, Gordon & Rees welcomed seventeen new attorneys to our Atlanta, Boston, Chicago, Dallas, Florham Park, Houston, Las Vegas, Los Angeles, Louisville, New York, Phoenix, Portland, and San Francisco offices. They join us as members of the Commercial Litigation, Community Association Law, Construction, Cyber, Privacy & Data Security, D&O and Shareholder Litigation, Employment Law, Environmental/Toxic Tort, Insurance, Product & General Liability, and Professional Liability Defense Practice Groups.

David Brezik, Senior Counsel
Dallas, Commercial Litigation / Employment Law / Community Association Law / D&O and Shareholder Litigation / Construction / Environmental/Toxic Tort / Professional Liability Defense

David joins the Dallas office as a member of the Commercial Litigation, Employment Law, Community Association Law, D&O and Shareholder Litigation, Construction, Environmental/Toxic Tort, and Professional Liability Defense practice groups. Through his diverse practice, David handles a wide variety of litigation matters for clients across the country at both the state and federal level. He handles all aspects of litigation, including depositions, hearings, mediations, trials and appeals. He aggressively advocates for his clients’ interests and has achieved early dismissals and dispositive motion awards, favorable jury trial verdicts including unanimous defense verdicts, as well as successfully negotiated numerous favorable settlements for his clients. David earned his J.D. from South Texas College of Law and his B.A. from The University of Texas at Austin.

New York, Product & General Liability

James joins the New York office as a member of the Product & General Liability practice group. James earned his J.D. from Seton Hall University School of Law and his B.A. from Boston College.


Ariane Janz, Associate
Chicago, Insurance / Cyber, Privacy & Data Security

Ariane joins the Chicago office as a member of the Insurance and Cyber, Privacy & Data Security practice groups. Prior to joining Gordon & Rees, Ariane was an associate attorney in a full-service law firm in Chicago where she represented businesses in complex commercial litigation matters. She has experience in all phases of litigation in both state and federal courts, as well as at the appellate level. Ariane earned her J.D. from the University of Iowa College of Law and her B.A. from Syracuse University.


Sean Johnson, Associate
Louisville, Construction

Sean joins the Louisville office as a member of the Construction practice group. Sean earned his J.D. from DePaul University College of Law and his B.A. from Michigan State University.


Cristina Mares, Associate
Chicago, Environmental/Toxic Tort / Product & General Liability / Professional Liability Defense

Cristina joins the Chicago office as a member of the Environmental/Toxic Tort, Product & General Liability, and Professional Liability Defense practice groups. Before joining Gordon & Rees, Cristina gained experience in product liability, where she handled complex discovery matters and worked as national discovery counsel for one of the largest automakers in the United States. Cristina’s experience as national discovery counsel allowed her to partner with in-house and trial counsel in state and federal jurisdictions throughout the United States to defend the client by managing discovery responses, including written discovery, discovery dispute resolution, and protecting confidential information used throughout discovery and at trial. She also represented large corporations in toxic tort litigation. Cristina earned her J.D. from DePaul University College of Law and her B.A. from the University of San Diego.

San Francisco, Construction

Katharine joins the San Francisco office as a member of the Construction practice group. Katharine earned her J.D. from Santa Clara University School of Law and her B.A. from the University of Mississippi.


Timur Navruzov, Associate
New York, Environmental/Toxic Tort

Timur joins the New York office as a member of the Environmental/Toxic Tort practice group. He participates in court conferences, performs extensive discovery work, drafts complex motions involving procedural and substantive issues, and assists with trial preparation. Timur earned his J.D. from Emory University School of Law and his B.A. from Boston University.


Clifford Pascarella, Associate
Boston, Environmental/Toxic Tort

Clifford joins the Boston office as a member of the Environmental/Toxic Tort practice group. He provides counseling and advocacy to corporate clients in complex commercial litigation focusing in toxic torts and environmental claims. He is experienced in evaluating the regulatory, scientific/medical, and state-of-the-art issues that commonly arise in complex litigation involving exposures to chemicals and minerals such as asbestos and talc. Clifford earned his J.D. from New England Law - Boston and his B.S. from Northeastern University.


Jessica Patterson, Associate
Atlanta, Commercial Litigation

Jessica joins the Atlanta office as a member of the Commercial Litigation practice group. She focuses her practice on representing individuals and corporations in civil matters, including premises liability, trucking litigation, and general liability matters. She delivers tactical solutions and advises clients regarding defense strategies for risk management. Jessica earned her J.D. from Rutgers School of Law and her B.S. from the University of South Carolina.


Andrew Robbins, Senior Counsel
Houston, Commercial Litigation

Andrew joins the Houston office as a member of the Commercial Litigation practice group. Prior to joining Gordon & Rees, he represented clients in the maritime and aviation industries on a variety of matters. His experience includes litigation involving breach of contracts, vessel collisions, pollution casualties and spills involving the Oil Pollution Act of 1990, aviation accidents, wrongful death claims, cargo disputes and personal injuries. He has also drafted various contracts and charter agreements for his clients. Andrew earned his J.D. from the University of Houston Law Center and his B.A. from University of Houston.


John Schneringer, Associate
Las Vegas, Commercial Litigation

John joins the Las Vegas office as a member of the Commercial Litigation practice group. He focuses his practice on commercial litigation but also continues to pursue practice diversity in the area of bankruptcy. Prior to joining Gordon & Rees, John worked for local law firm focusing on bankruptcy and trust & estate litigation. John earned his J.D. from the University of Arizona James E. Rogers College of Law and his B.A. from the University of California, San Diego.


Jack Scholz, Associate
Portland, Commercial Litigation

Jack joins the Portland office as a member of the Commercial Litigation practice group. Before entering private practice, Jack clerked for the Honorable Ann Aiken, Chief Judge of the U.S. District Court for the District of Oregon. He continues to serve the District of Oregon after being appointed by the Board of Judges to the District’s Civil Local Rules Committee. Jack earned his J.D. from the University of the Pacific, McGeorge School of Law and his B.A. from Chapman University.


Peter Silverman, Senior Counsel
Phoenix, Commercial Litigation / Insurance

Peter joins the Phoenix office as a member of the Commercial Litigation and Insurance practice groups. For more than two decades, Peter has delivered effective strategies and solutions for clients facing high-stakes challenges in law and government affairs. A skilled litigator and trusted advisor, he is regarded for his outstanding representation of large and small businesses, non-profits, individuals, and government. He possesses wide-ranging experience in both private and public sector law. In private practice, Peter has effectively counseled and advocated for clients in an array of complex matters ranging from unfair competition claims, securities actions, employment litigation, and defamation suits, to lending claims, civil rights litigation, government regulation challenges, and election disputes. He served at the Arizona Attorney General’s Office as the legal counsel for then Secretary of State Janice K. Brewer in high-profile litigation in state and federal court concerning the constitutionality of Arizona election laws and other legislation. Peter earned his J.D. from Arizona State University College of Law and his B.A. from Tufts University.

Jolene joins the Florham Park office as a member of the Commercial Litigation practice group. Prior to joining Gordon & Rees, Jolene served as the law clerk to the Honorable Rachelle L. Harz, J.S.C. in the Civil Division of Bergen County where she oversaw both the mass tort docket and civil docket. Jolene earned her J.D. from The George Washington University Law School and her B.A. from Syracuse University.


Meagan Swart, Associate
Phoenix, Commercial Litigation / Insurance

Meagan joins the Phoenix office as a member of the Commercial Litigation and Insurance practice groups. She is an experienced courtroom lawyer having made hundreds of court appearances. Prior to joining Gordon & Rees, Meagan practiced indigent criminal defense. She advocated for her clients both inside and outside the courtroom by successfully negotiating plea agreements with opposing counsel and representing her clients in preliminary hearings. Meagan earned her J.D. from Sandra Day O'Connor College of Law and her B.S. from Arizona State University.


Robert Ulich, Associate
Los Angeles, Insurance

Robert joins the Los Angeles office as a member of the Insurance practice group. He focuses his practice on diverse complex civil, real estate, construction, and personal injury litigation matters from inception up to trial, acting as lead attorney in numerous depositions, motion practice, and multi-party mediations, generally in the defense of clients against liability suits, the pursuit of insurance coverage, and the pursuit of indemnity cross claims. Robert earned his J.D. from Fordham Law School and his B.A. from the University of California, Berkeley.


Matthew Wayne, Partner
San Francisco, Employment Law

Matthew joins the San Francisco office as a member of the Employment Law practice group. His practice focuses on defending employers and individuals in single, multi-plaintiff, and class action matters in state and federal courts throughout California. He routinely defends employers in all phases of litigation against claims of wrongful termination, discrimination, harassment (including sexual harassment), retaliation, failure to accommodate, wage and hour violations, negligent hiring and retention, intentional infliction of emotional distress, and other employment-related claims. In addition to appearing in state and federal courts and arbitration forums, Matthew also represents clients before administrative agencies, including the Department of Fair Employment and Housing (DFEH) and the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC). He works collaboratively and creatively with his clients from the onset of litigation to develop targeted defense, discovery, and trial strategies that are comprehensive, yet efficient. Matthew earned his J.D. from New England Law - Boston and his B.A. from California State University, Chico.
