Gordon & Rees Welcomes Seventeen New Attorneys in October 2021

In October, Gordon & Rees welcomed seventeen new attorneys to our Boise, Chicago, Detroit, Hartford, Los Angeles, Nashville, New York, Pittsburgh, Raleigh, San Diego, San Francisco, and Tampa offices. David Bartels, Associate
Boise, Commercial Litigation

David joins the Boise office as a member of the Commercial Litigation practice group. His practice focuses on handling a broad variety of complex commercial cases and disputes. David's experience and knowledge in dispute resolution and negotiation affords clients an extensive exploration of opportunities for reaching an agreement between parties while not compromising the strength of the case and ensuring the case is prepared for a potential trial. He has represented clients in both plaintiffs and defense work providing him a unique and well-rounded understanding of the adversarial litigation system. David earned his J.D. from Concordia University School of Law and his B.A. from Azusa Pacific University.

San Diego, Employment Law

Elida joins the San Diego office as a member of the Employment Law practice group. Her practice focuses primarily on employment litigation, which includes defending employers against claims of wrongful termination, discrimination, harassment, and other employment-related claims. Elida earned her J.D. from California Western School of Law and her B.A. from San Diego State University.

Simone joins the Detroit office as a member of the Commercial Litigation practice group. Simone earned her J.D. from Michigan State University College of Law and her B.A. from Wayne State University.


Jonathan Federman, Senior Counsel
Chicago, Insurance / Commercial Litigation

Jonathan joins the Chicago office as a member of the Insurance and Commercial Litigation practice groups. Jonathan earned his J.D. from The John Marshall Law School and his B.S. from Illinois State University.


David Hayek, Senior Counsel
Los Angeles, Insurance

David joins the Los Angeles office as a member of the Insurance practice group. Prior to joining the firm, David counted among his clients both domestic insurers and syndicates and consortiums in the London Insurance Market, online platforms in the sharing economy, airlines and other aviation operations, developers and manufacturers. He has successfully represented clients focusing on a broad spectrum insurance and commercial practice. His expertise includes first and third party insurance coverage, counseling and defense, as well as representation of clients in diverse fields including real estate, environmental, construction, products liability and toxic tort liability, both as insurance retained defense counsel and for large, self-insured businesses. David earned his J.D. from the University of the Pacific, McGeorge School of Law and his B.A. from the University of Texas, Austin.

Stephanie joins the Detroit office as a member of the Commercial Litigation practice group. Stephanie earned her J.D. from the University of Detroit Mercy School of Law and her B.A. from Wayne State University.


Victoria King, Senior Counsel
Detroit, Commercial Litigation

Victoria joins the Detroit office as a member of the Commercial Litigation practice group. For the first eleven years of her legal career, Victoria worked in the Oakland County Circuit Court as a judicial staff attorney for the Honorable Leo Bowman. In her role as a judicial staff attorney, she worked in widely varying areas of the law including, complex commercial, general civil, professional liability, employment law, criminal, and appellate. She reviewed motions and responses to recommend the appropriate action by drafting proposed opinions that included summary disposition opinions, appellate opinions, and temporary restraining orders. Victoria earned her J.D. from Thomas M. Cooley Law School and her B.A. from Hillsdale College.


Alec Larsen, Associate
San Francisco, Construction

Alec joins the San Francisco office as a member of the Construction practice group. Alec earned his J.D. from the University of Denver Sturm College of Law and his B.A. from Colorado State University.


Brendan Mahoney, Associate
Hartford, Product & General Liability

Brendan joins the Hartford office as a member of the Product & General Liability practice group. He has over ten years of experience defending insureds against a variety of liability and property claims, including toxic tort, general liability, labor law, and construction matters. As local counsel, he defended industrial and automotive manufacturers against asbestos claims in Connecticut, working in close coordination with the client and their national counsels. Additionally, he has handled professional liability, commercial, coverage, lender liability, commercial foreclosure, and subrogation matters, as well as private client work. Brendan earned his J.D. from Boston University School of Law and his A.B. from Hamilton College.


Anthony Pavlik, Associate
Pittsburgh, Real Estate / Energy

Anthony joins the Pittsburgh office as a member of the Real Estate and Energy practice groups. He counsels energy and exploration and production companies on transactional matters by rendering drilling and division order title opinions, conducting due diligence on and assessing the value of assets for acquisitions or trades, and identifying and preparing curative measures for real estate title defects. Anthony collaborates with clients to produce creative and cost-effective solutions to issues encountered in their operations and helps navigate them through the risks. Anthony earned his J.D. from Duquesne University School of Law and his B.A. from the University of Maryland, College Park.


Courtnee Reid, Associate
Tampa, Insurance

Courtnee joins the Tampa office as a member of the Insurance practice group. Prior to joining the firm, Courtnee represented various employers, carriers and servicing agents in all aspects of workers compensation defense. She handled cases from initial referral through conclusion. She is a strong advocate for resolving cases favorably for her clients in the most cost-effective ways possible. Courtnee has extensive litigation experience including depositions, mediations, final hearings, motion practice and discovery. Courtnee earned her J.D. from Vanderbilt University Law School and her B.A. from the University of Miami.

Mick joins the San Francisco office as a member of the Employment Law practice group. Mick earned his J.D. from the University of The Pacific – McGeorge School of Law and his B.A. from the University of California, Irvine.


Tyler Sanders, Associate
Nashville, Employment Law / Commercial Litigation

Tyler joins the Nashville office as a member of the Employment Law and Commercial Litigation practice groups. Tyler earned his J.D. from Belmont University College of Law and his B.A. from Middle Tennessee State University.


Pamela Schwartz, Associate
New York, Employment Law

Pamela joins the New York office as a member of the Employment Law practice group. Prior to joining the firm, Pamela was a trial attorney at the New York City Law Department, where she defended The City of New York in high exposure civil lawsuits from pre-trial through trial. She has taken hundreds of depositions and has experience representing high-profile municipal clients, including the New York City Police Department and the New York City Department of Education, in sensitive litigation matters. Pamela earned her J.D. from New York Law School and her B.A. from New York University.


Reed Slatas, Senior Counsel
Hartford, Product & General Liability

Reed joins the Hartford office as a member of the Product & General Liability practice group. He has represented corporations, small businesses, individuals and insurance companies in the defense of thousands of claims over two decades. Reed strenuously defends his clients and understands the importance of thoroughly exploring and evaluating liability, damages, and pursuing all possible impleader, indemnity, and contribution actions. He also has extensive knowledge and experience in dealing with expert witnesses such as engineers, accident reconstructionists, economists, industrial hygienists and medical experts. Reed earned his J.D. from Syracuse University College of Law and his B.S. from Northwestern University.


Meagan VanderWeele, Senior Counsel
Chicago, Insurance

Meagan joins the Chicago office as a member of the Insurance practice group. Prior to joining the firm, Meagan worked for a premier litigation firm in Chicago specializing in professional liability defense. She has extensive experience in all phases of high-exposure and complex litigation, from initial evaluation through trial or arbitration and appeal. Meagan earned her J.D. from DePaul University College of Law and her B.A. from the University of Michigan.


Benjamin Williams, Associate
Raleigh, Employment Law

Benjamin joins the Raleigh office as a member of the Employment Law practice group. His practice includes representing clients in state and federal courts and administrative agencies such as the United States Department of Labor and Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC). He has experience in transnational employment litigation involving parties throughout North and Central America as well as collective actions under the Fair Labor Standards Act. Benjamin earned his J.D. from the University of North Carolina at Chapel-Hill School of Law and his B.A. from the University of Utah.
