Colorado Emergency Rulemaking Relaxes Licensure Renewal Requirements

April 14, 2020

On March 25, 2020, Governor Polis issued Executive Order D 2020-015 providing an extension of the expiration date for health care facility licenses expiring within the following thirty (30) days, and authorizing the Executive Director of the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment (CDPHE) to further issue emergency rules regarding these expiration dates.

Effective April 10, 2020, CDPHE modified 6 CCR 1011-1, Chapter 2 to extend all health facility licenses that expire during the period covered by Executive Order D 2020-015 until the expiration of the emergency rules. These modifications only concern in-person activities for license renewal, such as fingerprint-based background checks and the completion of training or testing that may not be completed through online resources. The license expiration date is not extended for licensed facilities that can meet all requirements through an online process.
