Mercedes Colwin to Discuss EPL Issues in National Webinar

Gordon & Rees partner Mercedes Colwin will discuss employment practices liability (EPL) issues in an Aug. 20 webinar produced by Advisen.

Ms. Colwin will participate in the panel discussion, titled “EPL Issues for Private Companies: Managing a Shifting Risk Landscape,” to be held Tuesday from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m. EDT. Panelists will address sources of EPL claims, such as obesity, medical marijuana, wellness plans, and social media activities; recent U.S. Supreme Court opinions striking down Section 3 of the Defense of Marriage Act and narrowing how “supervisors” are defined in Title VII claims; the economy’s ups and downs and the impact on employment-related claims; and practical insights for managing EPL exposures and insurance options, among other topics.

Ms. Colwin, managing partner of Gordon & Rees's New York City office, says, “Employment law is a mine field that gets more complicated by the day. That is why it’s essential for employers to stay abreast of the latest developments before making hiring and firing decisions. Employers can minimize the risk of EPL exposure and this webinar will help them do just that.”

Ms. Colwin is a leading U.S. trial lawyer with 48 cases successfully tried to verdict.
