Smolar is a highly experienced litigation and transactional attorney with more than 25 years of practice in the San Francisco Bay Area. He has played a pivotal role in representing early-stage startups during the first internet boom, guiding them through growth and development into successful, profitable enterprises—many of which are now Fortune 500 companies.
His representation of companies spans the corporate life cycle, from pre-incorporation planning, general corporate representation and counseling, venture capital financings, joint ventures, and mergers and acquisitions. He also works with venture capitalists, private equity investors, and investment banks involved in private and public stock offerings.

He is admitted to practice in California, Washington D.C., the U.S. District Court for the District of California, and the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit. He earned his law degree from Southern Methodist University and his undergraduate degree in journalism from Syracuse University.
