Gordon Rees Scully Mansukhani Partner Gretchen Harris Sperry was appointed to serve as a general editor of Civil Appeals: State and Federal 2025 Edition, published by the Illinois Institute for Continuing Legal Education (IICLE), a nonprofit provider of continuing legal education and practice resources for Illinois attorneys. She also authored four chapters in the handbook.
Filled with procedural guidance, strategic insight, and practical tips, the handbook will help attorneys navigate the full lifecycle of a civil appeal, from pre-appeal decisions to post-disposition issues, across Illinois state and federal courts.
Sperry’s contributions can be found in Chapter 2, Preserving Error for Review in Illinois Trial Proceedings, Chapter 19, Record on Appeal, Chapter 20, Motion Practice, and Chapter 23, The Appendix.
Sperry is Co-Chair of the firm’s Appellate practice and a Partner in the Chicago office. She is a seasoned appellate advocate with experience in state and federal courts, including the United States Supreme Court. She frequently serves as embedded appellate counsel at trial, developing appellate strategies in complex commercial litigation, high-exposure catastrophic injury cases, mass torts, constitutional litigation, and labor and employment matters.
