GRSM Launches National Equine Law Practice Group

Gordon Rees Scully Mansukhani is pleased to announce the formation of its Equine practice. Led by Jennifer A. Guidea, Partner in the Livingston, New Jersey office, the equine business law team provides legal solutions covering all aspects of equine-related transactions and litigation, supporting horse industry professionals, proprietors, and enthusiasts across all 50 states.

The group offers skilled legal counsel equipped to guide horse owners, breeders, trainers, stables, and equestrian professionals. With a comprehensive understanding of both equine law and the business realities of the horse industry, the team delivers strategic, industry-informed guidance to protect clients’ assets and position them for success.

“We created the Equine practice to meet the unique legal needs of an industry that blends passion with business,” said Guidea. “By combining deep industry knowledge with the nationwide resources of GRSM, we’re able to provide horse professionals and businesses with strategic, practical counsel wherever they operate.”

The Equine practice handles a broad spectrum of legal matters including purchase and sale agreements, lease and boarding contracts, liability and injury claims, partnership disputes, and regulatory compliance. In addition, the group advises clients on equine-related tax planning, including the distinction between hobby and business use, depreciation of horses and facilities, sales tax exposure, and IRS audits. The team also assists with insurance matters involving mortality, liability, and care, custody & control (CCC) policies, helping clients select the appropriate coverage and navigate claims when disputes arise.

“It’s a privilege to be part of this new team and to support GRSM’s commitment to the equine industry and its clients,” shared Sacramento Senior Counsel Wendy Holley, who joins the group with a strong background in equine law.

Paired with the firm’s nationally integrated, one-stop counsel for litigation and transactions, the practice provides clients with a decisive advantage when involved in various aspects of the equine industry.
