GRSM Partner Heather Irwin Quoted in Restaurant Business Magazine on California’s Workplace Know Your Rights Act

Gordon Rees Scully Mansukhani San Francisco Partner Heather Irwin was recently featured in a Restaurant Business Magazine article discussing California’s new Workplace Know Your Rights Act.

The law, which took effect on February 1, mandates that employers educate workers annually about their rights, particularly in the context of immigration enforcement. Irwin states that restaurants should have workers sign a receipt for the notification to ensure a record of compliance, as many restaurants lack an internal electronic communications system that employees regularly use, like email.

Irwin represents employers before administrative agencies, such as the Department of Fair Employment and Housing, the California Labor Commissioner’s Office, and the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission. She regularly provides strategic advice and counseling to employers on a wide variety of employment issues, including disability accommodation, wage-and-hour claims, Family Medical Leave Act/California Family Rights Act compliance, sexual harassment, and discrimination claims.
