CJ Ratterman, is an experienced attorney who is dedicated to a client-centered practice in which the interests of the client are explored and remain at the forefront throughout his engagement. His approach is a flexible one depending on the needs of the client. CJ is committed to a dogged defense of his client’s interests when necessary, but also seeks to ensure that he provides the client with a clear picture of the options, risks, and potential consequences necessary for making informed legal decisions.

Before joining the private sector, CJ served for 15 years as in-house counsel at a federal agency. During that time, CJ developed substantial expertise in the employment defense and housing arenas. Within the employment law context, CJ was a sought-after subject matter expert on several topics, including disability discrimination defense, particularly reasonable accommodation claims, and performance management issues. He also successfully defended the agency in dozens of cases before the EEOC and other administrative adjudicative bodies.

Within the housing context, CJ worked on—and developed expertise in—claims involving compliance with, and the enforcement of, civil-rights-related statutes, including work on design and construction cases, assistance animal cases, local and regional investigations, and other aspects of Fair Housing enforcement and compliance. CJ believes that his experience working as both an enforcement and a defense attorney allows him to think dynamically about defensive strategies to benefit his clients at GRSM.

CJ is a native of Cincinnati, OH, and is a rabid sports fan (including, yes, an intense fandom for the mighty Cincinnati Bengals). He also enjoys reading literature classics and is known to enjoy a bourbon from time to time.
