Erik E. Harris

Construction litigation attorney, Erik E. Harris, advises developers and contractors on best practices for construction sites to minimize risk and protect them against claims. When developers, contractors, and design professionals face claims, Erik leverages his skills and works with them to protect their reputation and minimize the impact on their business. He has successfully defended clients that have built airports, stadiums, high-rise mixed-use buildings, religious centers, and schools.

Erik’s multi-state construction practice includes handling lawsuits and claims brought in New York and Texas involving:

• Professional liability
• Worker and bystander accidents

Whether the strategy calls for defending the claim, pursuing early alternative dispute resolution, or pursuing outside coverage from downstream contractors, Erik is adept at providing effective and efficient representation that secures the best result while minimizing litigations costs. Erik has also defended clients in the commercial transportation/livery industries, private homeowners, and landlords. He has successfully defended clients at all stages of litigation including trial and appeals as well as at arbitrations and mediations.

During his career, Erik has investigated countless construction claims at multimillion dollar projects in New York City including the development of Manhattan West at Hudson Yards and the Cornell Tech Camus on Roosevelt Island. He has advised multi-billion-dollar construction companies on evidence collection and witness statements/interviews. Having undergone 30 hours of OSHA training, Erik is uniquely qualified on such topics as occupational safety and health standards, incident investigation, fall hazard awareness, and recordkeeping.

Before going into private practice, Erik worked in-house for an insurance company and clerked for a New York State Supreme Court judge. Before going to law school, Erik was a member of back-to-back Siena College men’s basketball regular season and conference championship teams in 2008 and 2009 where he also served as a student-athlete tutor.
