Howard N. Shipley

Howard is experienced in all aspects of intellectual property litigation including patent, trademark, copyright, trade secret and unfair competition cases brought under Lanham Act.  He also has experience leading Inter Partes Review proceedings before the Patent Trial and Appeal Board at the USPTO. He has experience with unfair trade practice cases at the U.S. International Trade Commission and an international arbitration in Singapore.

Howard’s clients have included automotive equipment suppliers in the following technology areas: electronics, seats, engines, safety equipment, interiors and HVAC systems. He has also served as patent counsel to an electric automobile manufacturer. He has represented major industrial and electronics companies on IP issues relating to semiconductors, telecommunication, power generators, compressors, pumps, engines and marine equipment.  He also represents financial services companies and is experienced in IP issues related to the financial services industry.

Howard is a former patent examiner at the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office and was a law clerk to the Honorable Claude M. Hilton, United States District Judge in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Virginia.

Howard is a former nuclear submarine officer and retired as a commander from the U.S. Naval Reserve. Howard is a member of the American Nuclear Society.
