Jim Kuhne is a Partner based in the Walnut Creek and Orange County offices of GRSM. For nearly twenty years, Jim has represented maritime transportation industry-leading vessel owners, operators, charters, marine terminal operators, and underwriters in civil litigation and emergency casualty response matters. Jim’s practice is focused on defending personal injury and wrongful death claims brought under the Jones Act, the Longshore and Harbor Workers’ Compensation Act, the Death on the High Seas Act, federal general maritime law, and state law, including occupational disease and toxic tort claims arising from alleged exposure to asbestos and other toxic substances.

Repeatedly ranked among the Best Lawyers in America® in the field of Admiralty and Maritime Law, Jim serves as local correspondent for multiple P&I Clubs in the International Group. In addition to his personal injury and wrongful death litigation expertise, Jim has substantial experience with investigation and strategic management of personal injury incidents, fatalities, marine oil spills and cargo claims, as well as matters brought under the Limitation of Liability Act and the Supplemental Rules for Admiralty or Maritime Claims. Outside of litigation, Jim frequently advises clients on safety auditing, loss mitigation and risk management, and incident investigation best practices.
