Healthcare Litigation
Katie has extensive experience defending healthcare providers, including physicians, hospitals, assisted living facilities, skilled nursing facilities, and rehabilitation centers. As part of her practice, she handles a wide variety of claims including negligence, malpractice, wrongful death, and violations of consumer protection laws in Colorado. Katie also has a proven track record of representing therapeutic providers with respect to HIPAA compliance at hearings and trials.
Commercial and Personal Injury Disputes
Katie has extensive experience defending corporations and non-profit organizations of all sizes in premises liability litigation. These actions vary considerably from slip-and-fall disputes to wrongful death cases. Katie is intimately familiar with premises liability law and has achieved multiple partial and full dismissals at the summary judgment stage. Equally, Katie consistently achieves favorable settlements, both informally and through mediation, at the state and federal levels. Katie has also handled disputes arising under the Colorado Organized Crime Control Act (“COCCA”) and the Colorado Uniform Fraudulent Transfer Act (“CUFTA”), as well as board of director disputes. Most recently, Katie handled a board of director litigation that went before the Colorado Supreme Court on a Rule 21 Petition on an issue concerning personal jurisdiction.
Employment Disputes
Prior to joining GRSM, Katie focused heavily on employment and labor at law school. She was awarded the John Linn Labor Award for excellence in her labor law class. She also interned for a plaintiff’s employment firm, through which she developed a balanced perspective to employment disputes. Katie utilizes these experiences to provide counsel to corporate clients on all aspects of employment litigation. In her practice, Katie handles employment discrimination and retaliation claims under federal civil rights statutes including 42 U.S.C. § 1981, Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), and the Age Discrimination in Employment Act (ADEA). She also handles discrimination disputes implicating Colorado state laws, such as the Colorado Anti-Discrimination Act (CADA).
Katie was born and raised in the southwest of England and spent her teenage years living in Dubai, where she was fortunate to gain exposure to many different cultures and religions. Katie has lived in Denver, Colorado for over twelve years. She enjoys travelling, as well as skiing and hiking with her dogs. She also enjoys attending shows at Denver’s Center for the Performing Arts and exploring the growing restaurant scene with her husband.
