With more than 15 years of experience in complex healthcare litigation, Komal brings a proven record of managing high stakes matters, advising senior leadership, and directing outside counsel on disputes that carry significant reputational and economic impact. Komal started her career with 13 years in private practice, focused on a variety of healthcare litigation, including professional liability matters, pharmaceutical litigation, product liability cases involving medical devices and provider-payor reimbursement disputes. She was also chosen to serve as an arbitrator on the American Arbitration Association’s national healthcare panel.

As in-house counsel to the University of California medical centers, she directed litigation strategy across the UC system, managed more than 50 outside counsel firms, and made litigation-related recommendations to the UC Regents. She helped shape policies and advised on corrective actions to mitigate future exposure, learning about medical center operations and working with key client stakeholders, including clinicians and medical center leadership.

Driven by her commitment to equity, Komal served as the inaugural Chief Diversity Officer of UC Legal, Director of DEI for the San Francisco City Attorney’s Office and as an attorney with the California Judicial Council’s Center for Children, Families and the Courts.
