Laura Knittle is Co-Chair of the Education Practice and a member of the Employment and Government Investigations & Enforcement Defense practices. Laura advises K-12 school districts on the full spectrum of education law, counseling boards of education and administrators on matters involving the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA), Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act, student discipline, civil rights compliance, internal investigations, confidentiality and student records, and complex employee issues. She regularly represents school districts in mediation, due process hearings, and regulatory investigations.

Laura is a trusted advisor to school leaders navigating high-profile and politically sensitive matters involving significant legal, operational, and reputational considerations. Her practical guidance helps districts manage risk, resolve challenging issues, and maintain the confidence of boards, administrators, and community stakeholders.

A former teacher, Laura draws on her experience as an educator to deliver practical, tailored solutions that support both legal compliance and educational objectives. She is a frequent presenter and resource for education organizations, including the Illinois Association of School Administrators, the School Superintendents Association, the Illinois Association of Administrators of Special Education, and the Illinois Council of School Attorneys.

Laura’s experience also includes representing school districts in matters before the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC), the Illinois Department of Human Rights (IDHR), and other government agencies, as well as advising on public records, data privacy, and governance issues.
