Marcus W. Shute, Jr.’s practice centers on defending employers and businesses in complex litigation, including employment and professional liability claims, and advising management on risk mitigation and compliance. He regularly represents companies in matters involving discrimination, retaliation, harassment, wage and hour issues, and other employment disputes before administrative agencies and in state and federal courts.

Marcus counsels clients on a wide range of business and workplace issues and assists in branding, planning, prosecuting, and defending against intellectual property infringements, arbitrations, and appeals. He has experience representing businesses and individuals in matters involving consumer protection, cybersecurity and privacy risks, breach of contract, fraud, negligence, wealth management, and asset protection. Marcus also focuses on representing long-term care providers, assisted living facilities, and health care providers in arbitration and litigation, and his practice includes the defense of construction defect, premises liability, automotive liability, and general liability claims.

Prior to joining GRSM, Marcus was the founder and managing partner of Shute Law PLLC, working with creatives and entrepreneurs to protect their intellectual property and expand their brands and commercial reach.

In his spare time, he is a private pilot, teaches at Tennessee State University, and is a center referee for the United States Soccer Federation.
