Pilu D. Patel focuses her practice on defending companies and insurers in complex, high-exposure matters involving general liability, products liability, premises liability, professional liability, toxic tort, and commercial litigation. Admitted in New Jersey and New York, she draws on more than 20 years of experience managing cases from initial evaluation through discovery, motion practice, and trial, helping clients minimise risk and achieve efficient, business-aligned outcomes.

Pilu has tried cases to verdict in both bench and jury trials and has achieved a high percentage of “no cause” verdicts in matters tried to completion. Her trial and litigation experience spans personal injury, construction defects, subrogation, PIP arbitration and workers’ compensation defense.

Strategic, Business-Aligned Defense
Clients rely on Pilu to translate complex liability and damages analysis into clear, actionable strategy. She provides comprehensive risk assessments and strategic evaluations, and she collaborates closely with claims departments and business stakeholders to align defense strategy with broader business objectives.

Key areas of Pilu’s litigation practice include:

  • Complex commercial litigation
  • Toxic tort and products liability
  • Premises and general liability
  • Personal injury and motor vehicle accident litigation
  • Subrogation and PIP arbitration

Beyond the courtroom, Pilu is fluent in Gujarati and conversational in Hindi and Spanish, allowing her to connect directly with a broad range of clients and witnesses.

Pilu’s commitment to advocacy took root in law school, where she was an active member of the Moot Court Honor Society, honing the oral argument and analytical skills that continue to define her trial practice today. She has carried that passion forward by returning each year as a judge for the Vincent J. Apruzzese Moot Court Competition, encouraging high school students as they develop the courtroom skills and confidence to become the next generation of advocates.
