R. Anthony Ellis focuses his practice on complex commercial disputes, employment litigation, business torts, contract disputes, and insurance-related matters. Prior to joining GRSM, Anthony represented Fortune 50 clients in a broad range of civil litigation matters, including complex commercial disputes, insurance defense claims, and contractual liability matters. Earlier in his career, he served as a Team Lead at the U.S. Federal Trade Commission (FTC), advising on regulatory matters and overseeing the agency’s Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) program, where he managed a high-volume portfolio of requests and counseled agency leadership on disclosure obligations, statutory interpretation, and the protection of sensitive business and consumer information.

In addition to working with the U.S. Department of Justice to represent the FTC in FOIA litigation, Anthony supported federal rulemaking initiatives and other agency priorities. His contributions earned him the FTC’s 2023 Stephen A. Nye Award, an honor recognizing the agency’s highest-performing junior attorneys. Anthony brings a multidisciplinary perspective to his practice, drawing on his legal, regulatory, and business background, as well as diverse professional experiences with organizations including the NFL Players Association and the United States Olympic and Paralympic Committee.
