René Gamboa brings a general counsel’s approach to his practice, having served as general counsel and business development director to two high tech internet companies. He is a seasoned real estate attorney who has represented clients in a wide-spectrum of real estate matters, including land use. René is accredited by the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC) as a Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Accredited Professional (LEED AP). He has worked with clients ranging from startups to multi-national companies across a variety of industries, including developers. Plus, having worked in real estate as a broker, René understands the business objectives of his clients and brings that experience to his transactional practice, as well as his real-estate related litigation practice.

René has advised clients on real estate transactional and litigation matters, land use, permitting, and entitlement issues, as well as business and corporate matters. He has had a varied career that has included, among other things, advising a Siemens on energy projects involving high-voltage transmission stations, including on land use and zoning issues. He has also taken the lead in developing and implementing a strategy to help BMW NA establish its first car-sharing business in the United States, beginning with an all-electric fleet in the San Francisco Bay Area. In that project, René counseled BMW on multiple issues, including land use, leasing, zoning, as well as corporate and business matters.

René also collaborates with GRSM’s construction law team and represents developers and counsels them on contract and development issues in California and nationally. In the past, René represented the San Bernardino Airport Authority in real estate matters involving a variety of real estate issues such as acquisition and disposition of property, leasing, and ground lease agreements. Plus, he has counseled homeowners associations in the preparation of development documents such as amended and restated CC&Rs.

In addition to his real estate transactional practice, René has also litigated and tried real estate related matters involving, among other things, easement disputes (including reciprocal easements), commercial disputes, vendor contract disputes, boundary line disputes, homeowners association disputes involving CC&Rs, failure to disclosure actions (representing property owners and real estate brokers), as well as commercial litigation matters. In addition to being part of GRSM’s Real Estate Group, René is also a part of GRSM’s Business Transactions Group and Commercial Litigation Group.

René acts as outside general counsel to companies, helping them grow and manage risk, has successfully advised C-level executives, and has worked collaboratively across various teams within a company, including sales, engineering, products, and marketing to achieve a company’s goals. René has counseled clients on all stages of a company’s development, from initial entity formation issues, intellectual property and licensing issues, corporate governance issues, through sale or merger events and exit strategies, and insurance issues. He has also counseled clients in negotiations with venture capitalists.
