Ellen Brinkman is a first-chair trial attorney and is the Co-Managing Partner of the Minneapolis office. She has litigated hundreds of cases in state and federal courts, spanning all areas of employment law, shareholder disputes, commercial litigation and business disputes, restrictive covenant disputes, education-related claims, and professional liability. Ellen’s clients range from small businesses in all industries to Fortune 500 companies. Ellen is fiercely competitive and hard-working; she wins trials through her ability to connect with juries and out-prepare the other side. She also approaches each case practically, finding business-oriented efficient resolutions when a settlement makes the most sense. Ellen views her role as part zealous advocate, part risk manager, and part strategic team player.

Ellen partners with her clients to navigate day-to-day issues in order to avoid litigation altogether, and thus counsels clients on a wide variety of workplace issues including hiring, promotion, disability accommodation, compliance with wage-and-hour and leave laws, discipline, terminations, and investigations. She assists clients in drafting employment policies, executive contracts, separation agreements, and she provides training to clients on various workplace topics. Ellen serves as an independent investigator to companies facing whistleblower, harassment, and other sensitive allegations.

In 2026, Ellen was named to the Legal500 Elite Rankings, rated Tier 1 in Minneapolis. She is one of the youngest Minnesota attorneys named to Benchmark Litigation’s Labor and Employment Stars, recognized for the Midwest and Minnesota from 2018-2023. In 2021, Ellen was named to Minnesota Lawyer’s “The Power 30” Employment list, which recognizes 15 plaintiff and 15 defense lawyers whose “mere presence on a case signifies the stakes, who have influenced the direction of the law, whose leadership in the community is pervasive and whose respect within the bar is undeniable.” Ellen has been honored as a Rising Star by Super Lawyers every year from 2011-2019, and as a Super Lawyer from 2021-2022. Ellen has been elected to multiple trial organizations for excellence in the courtroom, including the Federation of Defense & Corporate Counsel (FDCC) and the International Association of Defense Counsel (IADC). She is a frequent public speaker across the country on various topics related to her practice.

Ellen is a former two-sport Division I and Division III collegiate athlete. Outside of the office, she enjoys keeping up with her four teenage daughters.
