Fernando A. Vicente is an associate in the Los Angeles office of Gordon & Rees and a member of the Employment Practices group. His practice focuses exclusively on the defense of employers in all facets of employment matters.

Mr. Vicente is proficient in the defense of all employment claims based on the Fair Employment and Housing Act, and Title VII, including claims of discrimination, retaliation and harassment. He is also proficient in the defense of all disability related claims, including failure to accommodate and failure to engage in the interactive process. In addition, Mr. Vicente has defended against a variety of other statutory, common law, and contract claims. He is also experienced in defending against employment claims for deprivation of civil rights in the employment context under 42 U.S.C. Section 1983. He has litigated these employment claims in both state and federal courts.

As a litigator, Mr. Vicente has a heavy law and motion practice, with a proven record of dismissing employment claims on demurrer and summary judgment. He has also represented employers as respondents in the Courts of Appeal on appeal of orders granting summary judgment. In addition, Mr. Vicente is experienced in handling anti-SLAPP and Pitchess motions. He has also represented the respondent employer on petitions for writs of mandate.

Mr. Vicente is proficient in all aspects of written discovery and depositions, and in trial preparation. He has represented employers in pre-litigation matters before the DFEH, EEOC, and the California Labor Commission.

Prior to joining Gordon & Rees Mr. Vicente specialized in defending public entity employers, including municipalities, school districts and college districts.In his practice representing public employers, Mr. Vicente developed expertise in handling issues particular to public entity employment, including collective bargaining agreements, public employment due process rights, claims of public safety officer procedural due process rights, and confidentiality of peace officer personnel files.

Mr. Vicente is a member of the Hispanic National Bar Association and is a Fellow of the Woodrow Wilson National Fellowship Foundation.
