Karin A. Curtis is an experienced trial and litigation attorney at Gordon & Rees. She is licensed to practice in both California and Florida. A seasoned and tenacious courtroom advocate, Ms. Curtis has conducted over 40 trials, as well as successfully argued hundreds of motions and hearings. Ms. Curtis represents clients from various industries including consumer products, manufacturing, information technology, medical services, retail, and real estate. She is experienced in the defense of a wide-range of business disputes including those involving contracts, consumer protection, privacy rights, professional liability, copyright, and torts.
Ms. Curtis gained tremendous trial experience in her prior capacity as an Assistant State Attorney in Miami, Florida. Based on her exemplary work ethic and skills, Ms. Curtis was selected to the Career Criminal Unit where she prosecuted violent felony crimes. She earned a reputation for excellence in showcasing the testimony of expert witnesses (biology, chemistry, mechanics, and forensics) in a way that is approachable for lay jurors. Ms. Curtis was lead counsel in multiple high profile media cases covered by national and international media including The New York Times, CNN, and Huffington Post.
Ms. Curtis holds a J.D. from the American University Washington College of Law where she honed her writing skills on the American University International Law Review and was awarded the Mooers Trophy at graduation for excellence in trial advocacy. She won numerous national awards, including First Place in the National Civil Rights Trial Competition, while simultaneously managing sub-committees and competition teams for thirty-five students as Vice President of the Mock Trial Honor Society. She edited case files published by the National Institute of Trial Advocacy as a fellow for the law school’s acclaimed Trial Advocacy program, ranked top ten by U.S. News. She also directly represented clients in the General Practice Clinic, consistently ranked top five by U.S. News, where she conducted her first civil trial and advocated in bankruptcy, estate, and housing matters.
