Maria Solomon-Williams is senior counsel in the firm's Environmental/Toxic Tort, Cannabis, and International Law practice groups.
Ms. Solomon-Williams specializes in the defense of complex environmental claims, toxic tort and product liability claims. She also counsels clients regarding environmental compliance issues outside the litigation context, including property contamination, waste generation, handling and disposal, and recycling/reuse programs.
Ms. Solomon-Williams is experienced in water law and water resources law including environmental regulations, both state and federal. She has handled cases involving surface waters, surface runoff, and groundwater. Her cases have involved regulatory issues governed by the California State Water Resources Control Board and the California Department of Fish and Wildlife (Lake and Streambed Alteration Agreements). Ms. Solomon-Williams background has equipped her to handle general water rights matters, including water-related cannabis matters.
Ms. Solomon-Williams is a seasoned international trade professional whose international law practice involves import and export compliance, penalty assessments, conducting audits and developing compliance programs. She represents clients who are under investigation by the U.S. Department of Commerce Bureau of Industry and Security and U.S. Customs and Border Protection, and assists companies in preparing and submitting voluntary disclosures, preparing and filing classification requests and licenses. She also provides tailored training on specific import/export topics and advises clients on international trade agreements and antidumping/countervailing duty matters.
Ms. Solomon-Williams international trade experience is extensive covering the legal aspects of international trade and also trade promotion. Prior to entering private practice, Ms. Solomon-Williams worked for the U.S. Department of Commerce Chief Counsel for Import Administration handling anti-dumping and countervailing duty cases. She also worked for the Chief Counsel for International Commerce drafting international trade agreements including the North American Free Trade Agreement. She has experience in managing international trade programs at both the federal and state levels. After managing the first Export Assistance Center in Long Beach, CA, she was appointed by former Governor Grey Davis to head California’s Office of Export Development
Ms. Solomon-Williams believes in assisting business with international trade matters. She provides pro bono services for companies new to export, and was the former Southern California Coordinator for the U.S. Small Business Administration's Export Legal Assistant Network.
