Nerissa Diaz Moisan is an experienced lawyer who is attentive to detail, proactive with case files, and responsive to client inquires. She works diligently to resolve matters amicably prior to a lawsuit, in dismissal, in settlement, and as an advocate in court.
Ms. Diaz Moisan is fluent in both English and Spanish and is able to correspond with clients during all aspects of the litigation process in both languages. She also serves on the firm’s Diversity Committee.
Born and raised in Chicago, Ms. Diaz Moisan was educated at Northwestern University and DePaul University, two of the city’s leading institutions. As an attorney, she often defends corporations in product liability, toxic tort, negligence, and contract dispute litigation.
She has a thorough understanding of the issues facing corporations involved in product liability lawsuits. Specifically relevant is her previous experience defending a major electronics corporation for its alleged negligence in the design, manufacture, and failure to warn of the proper use of its escalators, as well as one of the largest retailers in the United States where those escalators were located.
Ms. Diaz Moisan is active in all phases of litigation, including investigating and evaluating the facts, preparing and implementing effective case strategy, early resolution, coordinating discovery, conducting depositions, engaging in motion practice, advancing the client’s position during pre-trial hearings, negotiating settlement, and preparing for and persuading a jury of the facts at trial. She has a variety of experience with both transactional and litigation work, making her a determined advocate as well as a formidable adversary.
Background & Prior Experience
Prior to joining the firm, Ms. Diaz Moisan advocated and advised on matters in civil litigation, specifically toxic tort, mass tort, insurance defense, defamation, product liability, and negligence cases. She appeared in court for case management conferences and oral argument throughout the state of Illinois. She conducted depositions, drafted motions, mediated cases to settlement, and participated in both bench and jury trials. Ms. Diaz Moisan previously performed legal research and drafted court pleadings and discovery regarding insurance subrogation and plaintiff’s personal injury matters in various Illinois counties and at all levels of state court. She served as a judicial extern for the Honorable Judge Raúl Vega, worked to exonerate the innocent at Northwestern University’s Center on Wrongful Convictions, and provided in-house legal advice for Levy Restaurants.
While in law school, Ms. Diaz Moisan was a member of DePaul’s International Moot Court Team, from which she received the CALI Award. She was also an editor and staff writer for the Cause of Action Newspaper and received the Benjamin Hooks Distinguished Public Service Award, for having completed over 200 hours of legal volunteer service. While at DePaul, she also studied international law at Sant’Anna Institute in Sorrento, Italy and Pontificia Universidad Católica Argentina in Buenos Aires, Argentina. In her undergraduate studies, Ms. Diaz Moisan received numerous leadership honors and submitted a thesis concerning the United States’ immigration policy following the enactment of Arizona SB 1070. She is a member of Zeta Tau Alpha Fraternity and Phi Alpha Delta Law Fraternity, International.
