Patrick F. Downey is an Associate in the New York office of Gordon & Rees. As a member of the Environmental/Toxic Tort practice group, Mr. Downey implements highly effective defense strategies on behalf of defendants in asbestos litigation throughout New York State. A zealous advocate for his clients’ interests, Mr. Downey collaborates extensively with co-defense counsel and plaintiffs’ counsel to achieve outstanding results. Specifically, Mr. Downey prepares motions involving complex substantive and procedural issues, engages in extensive discovery work and case evaluation, attends depositions around the world, participates in judicial conferences and settlement negotiations, and assists with trial and trial preparation.
Prior to joining Gordon & Rees, Mr. Downey was an associate for an immigration law firm, where he prepared employment-based visa and green card petitions on behalf of individuals in the arts, business, and the sciences. Mr. Downey is a graduate of the Michigan State University College of Law, where he earned Dean’s List honors and worked with the law college’s Immigration Law Clinic. Mr. Downey also completed internships with the Bronx Defenders, the US Department of Veterans Affairs, and the Center for Appellate Litigation, and served as the President of the Irish American Legal Society. Before entering law school, Mr. Downey attended Middlebury College, where he was a four-year letter winner on the football team as a defensive lineman.
