Samuel B. Laughlin is an experienced associate in the Commercial Litigation, Tort & Product Libability and Privacy, Data & Cybersecurity practice groups of Gordon & Rees. Mr. Laughlin maintains an intellectual property and commercial litigation practice in both state and federal courts. He has handled copyright, trademark, violation of publicity rights, trade secret misappropriation, and other commercial matters involving various business sectors, including the entertainment, professional athletic, Internet services, and software industries. Prior to beginning his career as an attorney, Mr. Laughlin worked in the entertainment industry of Los Angeles and holds a Bachelors of Fine Arts in Filmmaking from the University of North Carolina School of the Arts.
Mr. Laughlin is licensed in the State of California and maintains a diverse litigation practice in state and federal court with areas of expertise including breach of contract, unfair competition, false advertising, fraud, breach of fiduciary duty, professional malpractice, and personal injury. He carries additional experience in defending actions against tech companies and manufacturers for products liability and related issues involving such products as medical devices and technical software packages.
Mr. Laughlin received his Juris Doctorate from the University of San Diego School of Law where he served as an editor for the San Diego International Law Journal and the law school student newspaper, Motions. During law school, he had the honor of working for a United States federal judge in the Northern District of Alabama and for a state court judge in his home town of Birmingham, Alabama.
