Steven O. Rosen is a Partner in the Portland office of Gordon & Rees and is a member of the Aviation and Product & General Liability practice groups. Mr. Rosen is recognized as a skilled trial attorney and at the request of clients, he has tried cases to juries and judges in Oregon, Washington, and California and argued matters in Connecticut, Florida, Illinois, Idaho, and Alaska. He brings an engineering education and science background to cases and matters, which speeds understanding of technical issues.

Mr. Rosen began his career as an engineer, and holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Aerospace Engineering and a Master’s Degree in Systems and Control Engineering. While working as an engineer for the U.S. Department of Commerce, he provided engineering analysis to lawyers and policy makers in the Executive Office of the President. Law school followed and, since graduating from law school, his practice has included airplane, helicopter, airlines, airport, space rocket, hot air balloon, glider, trucking, automobile, train, and other accident work; construction claims; and general trial matters, with many involving engineering or technical issues.

He began work as a lawyer with Lord, Bissell and Brook in Chicago, then moved to Oregon and joined Miller Nash in Portland. While at that firm, he became a partner and member of the Executive Committee and also served as Chair of its Hiring Committee and Computer Committee. Completing 20 years of practice, he founded The Rosen Law Firm, P.C. in 1997. Mr. Rosen joined Gordon & Rees in 2019.

He has been an active contributor to the work of the American Bar Association’s Section of Litigation, having presented CLE programs at ABA meetings and served as Chair of its Aviation Committee, its Director of Divisions, a member of the Section’s Executive Committee, and Co-Chair of the Legal Services Training Committee. He has also served as Chair of the Oregon State Bar Aviation Section.

At the request of national and state bar associations, law firms, insurers, state prosecutors, the U.S. Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals, law schools, and the U.S. Air Force Judge Advocates Corps, Mr. Rosen has taught to their lawyers trial tactics, trial strategy, and legal ethics to thousands of lawyers in 38 states. His signature continuing legal education program, Movie Magic: How the Masters Try Cases, uses clips of Hollywood movies as a springboard for instruction. His programs have twice been designated Presidential Showcase Programs by the American Bar Association.

Mr. Rosen was president of his college fraternity. He enjoys snow skiing and cycling, particularly with his daughter.
