New York Employment Team Featured Presenters at 2018 Title IX Summit: Power, Politics & Privilege

Gordon Rees Scully Mansukhani New York attorneys Claudia Costa and Benjamin Levine presented an engaging discussion titled "Title IX: Where is it Today?" on Monday, June 11, 2018 at the Sixth Annual Title IX Summit: Power, Politics & Privilege at Rowan College.

Costa's and Levine's discussion focused on the changes being made by the new administration and the position that has been adopted with respect to transgender students. This position taken by the new administration is at odds with many local laws and even with the position which the EEOC holds today. Similar conflicts exist in the courts throughout the country. Moreover, cases involving bathroom access are on the rise and so too are the costs of resolving them. The discussion also focused on the changes being made by the new administration and the trends in the courts in the face of these changes.

The 2018 Title IX Summit focus was on the changes expected with the new administration and best practices for moving forward. With these impending changes from the Department of Education, the #MeToo and Time's Up movements, and the increased public awareness of the prevalence of sexual harassment and sexual violence in a variety of industries, a renewed spotlight is being cast on Title XI. Attendees departed with a better understanding of these important conversations and with practical tools and creative measures to ensure an education free from sex discrimination and sexual violence.
