Gordon & Rees Welcomes Thirty-Four New Attorneys in September 2019

Philip Abbruscato, Associate
Alexandria, Commercial Litigation

Philip joins the Alexandria office as a member of the Commercial Litigation practice group. Before joining Gordon & Rees, Philip worked as a law clerk for the Honorable Chief Judge William T. Newman Jr. in the Circuit Court of Arlington County. As a judicial law clerk, he had the opportunity to assist with and observe cases involving complex litigation issues. Philip earned his J.D. from The Antonin Scalia Law School at George Mason University and his B.A. from George Mason University.


Brittany Bihun, Associate
Charleston, Commercial Litigation

Brittany joins the Charleston office as a member of the Commercial Litigation practice group. She handles a wide variety of litigation matters including insurance defense, employment matters, contract disputes, torts, and other commercial litigation. Brittany earned her J.D. from Loyola University Chicago School of Law and her B.A. from Loyola University Chicago.


Jesse Blyth, Partner
Boston, Commercial Litigation

Jesse joins the Boston office as a member of the Commercial Litigation practice group. He has extensive experience handling complex matters in all stages of litigation, including first chair counsel on jury and bench trials, depositions, written discovery, law and motion, expert retention and development, expert depositions, trial preparation, and trial practice through verdict and judgment, and has participated in numerous mediations and arbitrations. He has served as lead counsel in the defense of architects and engineers in construction litigation, as well as representing businesses and corporations in premises and product liability claims. Jesse earned his J.D. from the University of San Diego School of Law and his B.A. from the University of California, Santa Barbara.


Hooshie Broomand, Partner
Sacramento, Commercial Litigation

Hooshie joins the Sacramento office as a member of the Commercial Litigation practice group. His practice includes general civil litigation with a background in product defects, business claims/contractual disputes, real estate, construction, employment, and high-end personal injury claims. He also handles public entity litigation where he represents numerous school districts throughout Northern California. Hooshie earned his J.D. from the University of the Pacific, McGeoge School of Law and his B.A. from the University of California, Davis.

Alexis joins the Houston office as a member of the Commercial Litigation practice group. Alexis earned her J.D. from University of Houston Law Center and her B.A. from the University of Texas at Austin.


Ryan Chuman, Associate
Los Angeles, Commercial Litigation

Ryan joins the Los Angeles office as a member of the Commercial Litigation practice group. He has experience litigating individual and class action employment cases in state and federal courts, including cases involving discrimination, harassment and retaliation allegations, defamation claims, whistle blower claims, employee privacy issues, medical leave issues, disability accommodations, qui tam actions, and wage and hour violations. Ryan earned his J.D. from Southwestern Law School and his B.A. from the University of California, Los Angeles.


Julie-Karel Elkin, Senior Counsel
Nashville, Business Transactions /Commercial Litigation

JK joins the Nashville office as a member of the Business Transactions and Commercial Litigation practice groups. She is a veteran in the legal industry with a proven track record of providing practical legal counsel to small and mid-size businesses and helping healthcare professionals and practice managers secure their office operations including regulatory compliance with HIPAA and HITECH. JK earned her J.D. from Nashville School of Law and her B.A. from Cumberland University.


Christina Flores, Associate
Chicago, Insurance / Consumer Protection Litigation / Class Action

Christina joins the Chicago office as a member of the Insurance, Consumer Protection Litigation, and Class Action practice groups. She represents domestic and international insurers in matters involving property policies, cyber policies, commercial general liability policies, financial institution coverages, commercial crime policies, director and officer liability policies, professional liability policies and specialty lines. Her practice also includes representing businesses and creative professionals in software and e-commerce development, data privacy, data loss, licensing, and copyright infringement disputes. Christina earned her J.D. from DePaul University College of Law and her B.S. from Florida International University.


Nicole Griffard, Associate
Denver, Professional Liability Defense

Nicole joins the Denver office as a member of the Professional Liability Defense practice group. She handles an array of litigation matters, including complex commercial litigation, copyright infringement, and mass toxic tort defense. Nicole earned her J.D. from Creighton University School of Law and her B.A. from the University of Colorado.


Christopher Hall, Associate
Irvine, Product & General Liability

Christopher joins the Irvine office as a member of the Product & General Liability practice group. His practice areas include the defense of medical negligence, childhood sexual abuse, products liability, public entity defense, employment law, auto liability, dangerous condition of public property, elder abuse, construction site accidents, construction defect, premises liability, police excessive force and violation of civil rights, as well as other general liability matters. Christopher earned his J.D. from Western State University College of Law and his B.A. from California State University, Fullerton.


Alexander Jurado, Associate
San Francisco, Construction

Alexander joins the San Francisco office as a member of the Construction practice group. He represents clients in both residential and commercial construction defect cases. Alexander earned his J.D. from Loyola Law School and his B.A. from Loyola Marymount University.


Debbie Kim, Associate
Los Angeles, Employment Law

Debbie joins the Los Angeles office as a member of the Employment Law practice group. Prior to joining Gordon & Rees, Debbie represented employers, insurance companies, and corporations in a wide range of matters, including workers’ compensation, product liability, general liability, personal injury, and labor and employment. She has extensive experience negotiating settlements and has obtained favorable results as lead attorney in bench trials and arbitration. Debbie earned her J.D. from the University of the Pacific, McGeorge School of Law and her B.A. from the University of Southern California.


Heidi Kim, Associate
San Francisco, Employment Law

Heidi joins the San Francisco office as a member of the Employment Law practice group. Prior to joining Gordon & Rees, Heidi defended clients in all phases of litigation in a variety of matters, including personal injury, constitutional and civil rights, and employment. Heidi earned her J.D. from the University of the Pacific, McGeorge School of Law and her B.A. from California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo.


James Lawson, Senior Counsel
San Francisco, Construction

James joins the San Francisco office as a member of the Construction practice group. For over twenty years, James has represented and advised construction design professionals on nearly every type of project, including public works, environmental remediation, corporate campuses, profit and non-profit commercial and industrial buildings, and single family homes. James earned his J.D. and B.A. from the University of Colorado, Boulder.


Kelly Lippincott, Partner
Alexandria, Insurance

Kelly joins the Alexandria office as a member of the Insurance practice group. She advises insurers on an array of matters and defends insurers in federal and state courts. She has litigated disputes involving property coverage, life insurance coverage, and additional-insureds, as well as other areas of coverage. Kelly earned her J.D. from American University, Washington College of Law and her B.A. from Drew University.


David Lloyd, Of Counsel
Seattle, Commercial Litigation

David joins the Seattle office as a member of the Commercial Litigation practice group. He is an experienced litigator with over twenty years of practice focused on representing clients and insureds in commercial law and property and casualty litigation. David earned his J.D. from Delaware Law School (Widener University) and his B.A. from the University of Delaware.


Aurora Lopez, Associate
San Diego, Employment Law

Aurora joins the San Diego office as a member of the Employment Law practice group. Prior to joining Gordon & Rees, she gained invaluable insurance defense experience working as a Workers’ Compensation in-house counsel for a prominent insurance company. Aurora earned her J.D. from Loyola Law School and her B.A. from the University of California, San Diego.


Edrik Mehrabi, Associate
Los Angeles, Employment Law

Edrik joins the Los Angeles office as a member of the Employment Law practice group. His practice primarily focuses on defending clients against claims of discrimination, harassment, retaliation, wrongful termination, failure to engage in the interactive process, failure to accommodate, failure to prevent discrimination and/or retaliation, and breach of employment contract. Edrik earned his J.D. from Loyola Law School and his B.A. from the University of California, Los Angeles.

Jason joins the Florham Park office as a member of the Employment Law practice group. Jason earned his J.D. from Seton Hall University School of Law and his B.A. from Boston University.


Jill Ormond, Partner
Phoenix, Commercial Litigation / Product & General Liability

Jill joins the Phoenix office as a member of the Commercial Litigation and Product & General Liability practice group. Jill's legal practice often focuses on consumer products and consumer services companies, practicing in the areas of product and premises liability, business and civil litigation, intellectual property and entertainment law. She has nearly a decade of experience in tort and complex commercial litigation matters, including insurance defense, products liability, premises liability, business and civil litigation, entertainment law, and intellectual property. Jill earned her J.D. from the University of Nevada, Las Vegas, William S. Boyd School of Law and her B.A. from Arizona State University.


Blair Pickus, Associate
San Diego, Employment Law

Blair joins the San Diego office as a member of the Employment Law practice group. He focuses on employment litigation, which includes defending employers in a variety of legal claims including wrongful termination, discrimination, harassment, wage and hour matters, employee classifications issues, retaliation, breach of contract and other related matters. Blair earned his J.D. from Golden Gate University School of Law and his B.S. from the University of Oregon.


Whitney Prout, Associate
Sacramento, Employment Law

Whitney joins the Sacramento office as a member of the Employment Law practice group. She focuses her practice on employer defense. In addition, she represents and advises hospitality clients with regard to landlord-tenant relationships. She has significant experience representing property owners and managers in landlord-tenant matters, including unlawful detainer actions. In particular, Whitney is experienced in representing specially regulated types of properties, such as mobile home parks, federally subsidized housing, and properties subject to local rent and eviction control measures. Whitney earned her J.D. from the University of the Pacific, McGeorge School of Law and her B.A. from the University of Redlands.


Stephen Putonti, Associate
Dallas, Environmental/Toxic Tort

Stephen joins the Dallas office as a member of the Environmental/Toxic Tort practice group. He has spent most of his varied career practicing civil litigation in the toxic tort, family law, commercial law, business litigation and consumer law setting. He has served as an NFL Member Contract Advisor and has represented professional athletes and entertainers in contract negotiations. Stephen earned his J.D. from Whittier College School of Law and his B.A. from State University of New York at Albany.


Daniel Schuleman, Associate
Chicago, Insurance

Daniel joins the Chicago office as a member of the Insurance practice group. He concentrates his practice in insurance coverage counseling and litigation and represents insurance carriers with respect to claims under both first and third party policies. Prior to joining Gordon & Rees, Daniel worked for a national insurance coverage boutique. Daniel earned his J.D. from the University of Illinois College of Law and his B.A. from Northwestern University.


Karen Shimonsky, Senior Counsel
Denver, Health Care

Karen joins the Denver office as a member of the Health Care practice group. She primarily handles the defense of health care matters including both long term care cases and medical malpractice cases. Karen’s litigation experience also includes the defense of products liability and professional malpractice claims. She has handled numerous high exposure and complex matters and has tried cases at both the state and federal level. Karen earned her J.D. from Stetson University College of Law and her B.S. from the University of Florida.


Jolene Sproviero, Associate
Florham Park, Commercial Litigation

Jolene joins the Florham Park office as a member of the Commercial Litigation practice group. Prior to joining Gordon & Rees, she served as the law clerk to the Honorable Rachelle L. Harz, J.S.C. in the Civil Division of Bergen County where she oversaw both the mass tort docket and civil docket. Jolene earned her J.D. from The George Washington University Law School and her B.A. from Syracuse University.


Justyn Stokely, Associate
Hartford, Insurance

Justyn joins the Hartford office as a member of the Insurance practice group. Prior to joining Gordon & Rees, Justyn served as a law clerk to United States Magistrate Judge Robert M. Spector of the United States District Court for the District of Connecticut. Before that, he served as a law clerk to Judge Stuart D. Bear, Judge Thomas A. Bishop, and Justice Lubbie Harper, Jr. of the Connecticut Appellate Court. Justyn earned his J.D. from Quinnipiac University School of Law and his B.A. from Quinnipiac University School of Law.


Aleksandra Szajna, Associate
New York, Environmental/Toxic Tort

Aleksandra joins the New York office as a member of the Environmental/Toxic Tort practice group. Aleksandra earned her J.D. from Seton Hall University School of Law and her B.S. from Seton Hall University.


Lilit Vardanian, Associate
Los Angeles, Employment Law

Lilit joins the Los Angeles office as a member of the Employment Law practice group. She has experience managing cases including PAGA matters, class action complaints, and individual matters regarding wage and hour claims and claims for discrimination, harassment, and retaliation. Lilit earned her J.D. from Pepperdine University School of Law and her B.A. from the University of California, San Diego.

Julie joins the Boise office as a member of the Commercial Litigation practice group. Julie earned her J.D. from the University of Georgia School of Law and her B.A. from the University of Washington.


Nicholas Varney, Associate
Hartford, Insurance

Nicholas joins the Hartford office as a member of the Insurance practice group. He has a broad range of litigation experience, and has represented clients in both state and federal courts. Prior to joining Gordon & Rees, Nicholas served as a law clerk for the judges of the Connecticut Superior Court, and for the Honorable Judge William H. Bright, Jr., at the Connecticut Appellate Court. Nicholas earned his J.D. from Western New England University School of Law and his B.S. from Western New England University College of Business.


Kelsey Wong, Associate
Los Angeles, Employment Law

Kelsey joins the Los Angeles office as a member of the Employment Law practice group. Prior to joining Gordon & Rees, Kelsey represented corporations in a wide range of matters, including products liability, mass tort, personal injury, and general liability matters. She has experience in all aspects of litigation. Kelsey earned her J.D. from Loyola Law School and her B.A. from the University of California, San Diego.


Damon Wright, Partner
Alexandria, Intellectual Property / Commercial Litigation

Damon joins the Alexandria office as a member of the Intellectual Property and Commercial Litigation practice groups. Damon serves as outside general counsel to dozens of businesses and entrepreneurs who sell products and services online, including e-commerce retailers, technology companies, lead generators, advertising agencies, and related service providers. For these and other clients, his goal is focused and simple – to protect and strengthen their business. Damon primarily focuses on online advertising, regulatory compliance, intellectual property, business transactions, and consumer protection law, as well as resolving, prosecuting, and defending against legal action. Damon earned his J.D. from George Mason University School of Law and his B.S. from James Madison University.


Viktorija Zdraveva, Associate
Columbus, Commercial Litigation

Viktorija joins the Columbus office as a member of the Commercial Litigation practice group. She focuses her practice on a wide range of professional liability, employment, white collar crime, defamation, commercial real estate, and municipal liability matters. Viktorija earned her J.D. from Cleveland-Marshall College of Law and her B.S. from The Ohio State University.
