Gordon & Rees Welcomes Twenty-One New Attorneys in February 2019

In February, Gordon & Rees welcomed twenty-one new attorneys to our Chicago, Dallas, Denver, Houston, Los Angeles, New York, San Diego, San Francisco, St. Louis, Washington, D.C., and Williamsburg offices. They join us as members of the Commercial Litigation, Employment Law, Energy, Environmental/Toxic Tort, Health Care, and Insurance Practice Groups.

Andrew Atkins, Senior Counsel
Dallas, Environmental/Toxic Tort

Andrew joins the Dallas office as a member of the Environmental/Toxic Tort practice group. Prior to joining the firm, he was a senior litigation attorney at Kilpatrick Townsend, where his practice focused on complex commercial litigation. Andrew earned his J.D. from the University of Arkansas School of Law and his B.B.A. from Baylor University.


Artin Avetisove, Senior Counsel
Los Angeles, Employment Law / Commercial Litigation

Artin joins the Los Angeles office as a member of the Employment Law and Commercial Litigation practice groups. He maintains a wide range of practice areas, with a focus on defending companies in products liability and catastrophic personal injury matters. He also regularly handles real estate and commercial matters and has extensive experience in both state and federal court defending private companies and public entities in employment matters. Artin earned his J.D. from the University of California, Hastings College of the Law and his B.A. from the University of California, Los Angeles.


Gregory Bean, Senior Counsel
Williamsburg, Commercial Litigation

Gregory joins the Williamsburg office as a member of the Commercial Litigation practice group. He assists commercial tenants in obtaining and collecting on judgments, evicting tenants, and interpreting contract language. He assists residential landlords in disputes with tenants and eviction and judgment litigation. He also advises community associations on their general legal matters and litigating matters involving covenant enforcement and collections actions. Gregory earned his J.D. from William & Mary School of Law and his B.S. from Brigham Young University.


Margaret Boehmer, Associate
Denver, Health Care

Margaret joins the Denver office as a member of the Health Care practice group. She also has experience defending actions concerning employment disputes, personal injury litigation, and consumer protection claims. Margaret has advocated for clients in state and federal courts throughout the country, on both the trial court and appellate court levels. Margaret earned her J.D. from the University of Denver Sturm College of Law and her B.A. from Colorado State University.


Jeffrey Buck, Senior Counsel
San Francisco, Commercial Litigation

Jeffrey joins the San Francisco office as a member of the Commercial Litigation practice group. He defends individuals and business entities in matters related to personal injury, general liability, premises liability, products liability, and construction accidents. He has experience defending matters arising out of business disputes, contract disputes and professional negligence matters including medical, dental and ophthalmic malpractice matters. Jeffrey earned his J.D. from Villanova University School of Law and his B.A. from Princeton University.


Patrick Downey, Associate
New York, Environmental/Toxic Tort

Patrick joins the New York office as a member of the Environmental/Toxic Tort practice group. His practice focuses primarily on asbestos litigation. Prior to joining Gordon & Rees, Patrick was an associate for an immigration law firm, where he prepared employment-based visas and green cards for individuals in the arts, business, and the sciences. Patrick earned his J.D. from Michigan State University College of Law and his B.A. from Middlebury College.


Jo-Ann Estades, Of Counsel
Washington, D.C., Commercial Litigation

Jo-Ann joins the Washington, D.C. office as a member of the Commercial Litigation practice group. Jo-Ann earned her J.D. from Interamerican University School of Law and her B.A. from the University of Puerto Rico.


Svetlana Gitman, Associate
Chicago, Insurance

Svetlana joins the Chicago office as a member of the Insurance practice group. Before joining Gordon & Rees, Svetlana worked as an in-house claims litigation attorney for a national insurance company. She has extensive experience conducting settlement negotiations, arbitrations, and obtained multiple jury verdicts in favor of her clients. She has successfully argued and defended motions for summary judgment, motions to dismiss, and other substantive motions. Svetlana earned her J.D. from John Marshall Law School and her B.A. from The University of Minnesota, Twin Cities.


Brett Herbert, Associate
Williamsburg, Employment Law / Commercial Litigation

Brett joins the Williamsburg office as a member of the Employment Law and Commercial Litigation practice groups. He represents businesses in an array of contract disputes, as well as disputes involving claims for fraud, defamation, conspiracy, and tortious interference. His practice also includes the arbitration and litigation of a variety of employment issues, including Title VII discrimination and retaliation claims, age discrimination and disability discrimination claims, and wage and hour claims. Brett earned his J.D. from William & Mary School of Law and his B.A. from the University of Virginia.


James Hester, Senior Counsel
San Diego, Employment Law

James joins the San Diego office as a member of the Employment Law practice group. He has tried, arbitrated, and mediated dozens of cases for Fortune 500 clients and others, has taken hundreds of depositions, handled numerous appeals, supervised dozens of employees and has been general counsel for several companies. James earned his J.D. from the University of San Diego and his B.A. from the University of Florida.


Jennifer Hinds, Associate
Los Angeles, Commercial Litigation

Jennifer joins the Los Angeles office as a member of the Commercial Litigation practice group. She has experience in complex commercial, products liability, employment, consumer and class action litigation defense practice representing banks, governments, international manufacturers, and Fortune 500 companies in alternative dispute resolution in federal and state courts. Jennifer earned her J.D. from Loyola Law School and her B.A. from Santa Clara University.


Christopher Hughes, Associate
Los Angeles, Employment Law

Christopher joins the Los Angeles office as a member of the Employment Law practice group. He represents employers in all aspects of employment litigation, including wage and hour class actions in state and federal court, and single-plaintiff actions for disability discrimination, pregnancy discrimination, whistleblower retaliation, and wrongful termination. Christopher earned his J.D. from the University of California, Los Angeles School of Law and his B.A. from the University of California, Santa Barbara.


Jennifer Martin, Associate
San Diego, Employment Law

Jennifer joins the San Diego office as a member of the Employment Law practice group. Her practice involves litigation defense of employers against claims by employees, including discrimination, wage and hour, and other related claims. Prior to joining Gordon & Rees, she was involved in litigating a wide variety of cases including personal injury, trip and falls, automobile accidents, dangerous condition of public property, constitutional rights cases, employment matters, the California Public Records Act, and the Brown Act. Jennifer earned her J.D. from Thomas Jefferson School of Law and her B.A. from Christendom College.


Thomas Mudd, Associate
St. Louis, Environmental/Toxic Tort

Thomas joins the St. Louis office as a member of the Environmental/Toxic Tort practice group. He focuses his practice on complex litigation matters, including toxic torts and product liability. Thomas earned his J.D. from St. Louis University School of Law and his B.A. from Rhodes College.


Nima Nayebi, Senior Counsel
San Francisco, Employment Law

Nima joins the San Francisco office as a member of the Employment Law practice group. Prior to joining Gordon & Rees, he was a litigation associate at a boutique litigation firm representing public entity clients in matters involving diverse legal issues. Nima was also a Staff Attorney at the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit, where he spent five years working on a variety of civil and immigration appeals. Nima earned his J.D. from Hastings College of the Law and his B.A. from San Francisco State University.


Susan North, Partner
Williamsburg, Employment Law / Commercial Litigation

Susan joins the Williamsburg office as a member of the Employment Law and Commercial Litigation practice groups. Her practice includes counseling, mediation, arbitration and litigation of a variety of employment issues, including sexual harassment, race and sex discrimination, age discrimination and disability discrimination, wage and hour claims, as well as covenants not to compete, non-disclosure agreements, business conspiracy and trade secrets. She also is experienced in defending complex, multiple-plaintiff and pattern and practice cases, including successfully defeating Title VII and 42 U.S.C. Section 1981 class action discrimination cases and wage and hour collective action cases under the Fair Labor Standards Act. Susan earned her J.D. from the University of Richmond School of Law and her B.S. from Old Dominion University.


Randall Pais, Of COunsel
Houston, Environmental/Toxic Tort / Energy

Randall joins the Houston office as a member of the Environmental/Toxic Tort and Energy practice groups. He provides strategic legal counsel and transactional expertise across a broad range of business, legal, and geographical areas. He retired from Exxon Mobil Corporation in 2000 and Kinder Morgan Inc. in 2019. He also retired as a Colonel from the United States Army Reserve in 1997. Randall earned his J.D. from the University of Tennessee, College of Law and his B.S. from the United States Military Academy.


Sean Raymond, Associate
Washington, D.C., Commercial Litigation

Sean joins the Washington, D.C. office as a member of the Commercial Litigation practice group. Sean earned his J.D. from the University of Pittsburgh School of Law and his B.A. from the University of Pittsburgh.


Branden Sigua, Associate
San Diego, Employment Law

Branden joins the San Diego office as a member of the Employment Law practice group. He has litigated cases from inception to completion, including high exposure cases in excess of $9.8 million, cases including detailed news coverage, and cases with multiple fatalities. He has also defended a high exposure rideshare technology company from all personal injury matters nationwide. Branden earned his J.D. from Loyola Law School and his B.A. from the University of California, Berkeley.


William Sleeth, Partner
Williamsburg, Employment Law / Commercial Litigation

William joins the Williamsburg office as a member of the Employment Law and Commercial Litigation practice groups. He is a trial lawyer who represents businesses and individuals in a wide array of litigation matters in state and federal court throughout Virginia and the nation. He has a specialty focus in the areas of estate litigation, retail and hospitality law, and in the field of community association representation. He also serves as general counsel to an array of businesses, advising them on their litigation and general legal needs. William earned his J.D. from William & Mary School of Law and his B.A. from Wheaton College.

Ramesses joins the San Diego office as a member of the Environmental/Toxic Tort practice group. Ramesses earned his J.D. from California Western School of Law and his B.A. from the University of California, San Diego.
