International Practice Group Continues To Help Clients Expand Business in Asia

Gordon & Rees's International Practice Group has a unique strength in Asia, as the Chair of Gordon & Rees's Intellectual Property practice is admitted as a solicitor to the High Court of Hong Kong and previously served for 10 years as the General Counsel of a Hong Kong consumer goods company with operations around the world.  He is extensively involved in advising U.S. companies on establishing business operations in China, including representative offices and wholly foreign-owned enterprises. Gordon & Rees lawyers provide an increasing amount of Asia-related legal assistance to U.S., Canadian, European, Latin American, and Central American companies.

Examples of recent experience are noted below.

  • Represented a Taiwanese shipping line in the negotiation and execution of construction contracts based on FIDIC with international construction and engineering firms, involving civil and dredging works, valued at $90 million.

  • Drafted and negotiated contracts for U.S. companies¬† with operations in India.

  • Negotiated for a U.S. client a Japanese joint venture for provision of environmental consulting services in Japan.

  • Established operating companies and joint ventures in Hong Kong.
