Deanna Rader and Monica Ryden to Speak at Arizona School Boards Association Law Conference

On Sept. 6, Gordon & Rees Phoenix partner Deanna Rader and senior counsel Monica Ryden will speak at the Arizona School Boards Association Law Conference. They will present on the topic “Handling Employee Retaliation Claims: The Right Way and the Wrong Way” from 2:00 p.m. to 2:50 p.m. at the JW Marriott Camelback Inn in Scottsdale.

The conference provides an extensive review of the challenges facing schools in providing a free and equal education for all. Top legal experts will discuss issues of concern to school leaders and address specific questions in breakout sessions. This year’s conference features 28 breakout sessions – more than ever before – plus five informative general sessions.

Rader is an experienced litigator in Gordon & Rees’s Employment Practice Group who defends employers in state and federal court. She advises clients in a variety of matters such as risk assessment, disability, employee training, reductions in force, and compliance issues, including FMLA, FLSA, ADA, ADEA, and Title VII. She represents school districts, charter schools, and private schools on issues including compliance with statutes applicable to public schools, such as IDEA, FERPA, Title IX, Arizona’s Open Meeting Law, and Public Records Law. She also provides training to employers and school administrators regarding personnel policies and handbooks, employee discipline and termination, and student and employee harassment and discrimination.

Ryden focuses her practice on commercial litigation, construction, and employment matters. She has represented large and small business entities and individuals in disputes in federal and state court and arbitration, including those involving breach of contract, fraud, RICO, shareholder and partner disputes, lender liability, state and federal consumer statutes, defective construction, and defamation. She has substantial experience in counseling clients on contract interpretation and grievance procedures, and in representing employers defending charges of employment discrimination and related torts. She counsels employers on personnel manuals and procedures, drug and alcohol testing and sexual harassment policies, and compliance with specific state and federal statutes and regulations.
