Duncan Byers Joins GRSM as Intellectual Property Litigation Partner in Williamsburg Office

Gordon Rees Scully Mansukhani welcomes Duncan Byers as a Partner in the firm’s Williamsburg office. He strengthens the Intellectual Property Litigation and Commercial Litigation practices, bolstering the firm’s presence in Virginia.

Byers brings more than 22 years of legal and leadership experience to his practice. He focuses on intellectual property law, including protection, transactions, litigation, and enforcement before the United States Patent and Trademark Office as well as in state and federal courts nationwide. His practice also encompasses complex civil litigation, where he handles business and contract disputes, matters involving trusts, estates, and wills, tort defense, and other sophisticated legal challenges in trial courts. Additionally, he has substantial experience with appellate work in both state and federal courts across these areas of law.

He is admitted to practice in Virginia, the U.S. District Court for the Eastern and Western Districts of Virginia, the U.S. District Court for the District of Nebraska, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Third, Fourth, and Federal Circuit, the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office including the Trademark Trial and Appeal Board, and the U.S. Court of Federal Claims.

In addition to practicing in those courts, Byers has appeared or is currently appearing pro hac vice at the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Ohio, the U.S. District Court for the Middle District of California, the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York, the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia, the U.S. District Court for the Middle District of Florida, the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania, and the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of North Carolina.

He earned his law degree from Washington and Lee University and both his master’s and undergraduate degrees in Chemistry from Old Dominion University.
