John Eustermann brings to Gordon Rees Scully Mansukhani a career that few energy lawyers can match: three decades of deal-making across the full clean-energy spectrum, on both sides of the table, long before renewable energy became a household term. As a partner at a nationally recognized firm, he led a Renewable Energy Practice Group and built an impressive book of business advising developers, suppliers, off-takers, and financiers on projects ranging from waste-to-energy and biomass to solar, wind, geothermal, and nuclear. He then spent more than a decade as an inaugural General Counsel for a series of venture- and private equity-backed clean-energy and sustainable agriculture companies, giving him an insider’s understanding of how deals are executed and what clients need from outside counsel.
- General Counsel for a $1B+ anaerobic digester project developer with more than 200 corporate subsidiaries; managed over $100M in ITC/PTC tax-credit transfer transactions (2025–2026).
- Led all company-side legal work to close a $250M joint venture with a private equity firm for biogas project development.
- Advised on a $110M+ Series C equity raise from due diligence through closing.
- Negotiated a $30M+ nuclear fuel supply agreement with a French utility for a small modular reactor manufacturer.
- Managed federal cooperative agreements totaling $210M+ for a VC-backed nuclear technology company.
- Authored PG&E’s Master Biogas Purchase and Sale Agreement.
- Led development and closure of a $985M+ power purchase agreement for a 125 MW base-load cogeneration facility.
- Structured a $700M+ portfolio syndicated project financing for two 100-million-gallon-per-year ethanol production facilities.
- Negotiated a $550M+ EPC contract for a biomass-to-ethanol and power cogeneration facility.
- Represented approximately 40 biofuel plant developers across 22 states on projects ranging from 30 to 110 million gallons per year.
