Nathan R. Garcia

Nathan’s courtroom practice began in contested probate and trust litigation and remains focused on will and trust contests, breach of fiduciary duty claims, contested accountings, and guardianship and conservatorship proceedings tried to verdict. He argues appeals in both Utah appellate courts, including a probate matter in which the Utah Supreme Court resolved the reach of the state’s Savings Statute. Alongside that work, he maintains a private client practice in trust and estate planning, administration, and federal estate tax compliance.

For carriers and insureds, Nathan defends premises liability, transportation, construction defect, professional negligence, and malpractice claims in state and federal court. His construction work spans eight years on both the defense and claimant sides, including multi-party subrogation and coordinated expert discovery. He also analyzes coverage positions across commercial lines and evaluates indemnification and additional insured obligations in commercial and construction contracts.

His domestic relations practice covers contested custody and parent-time disputes, property division, alimony, relocation, post-decree modification and enforcement, and protective order proceedings. Nathan is particularly suited to divorces that reach into a business or an estate: valuing an owner’s interest in a closely held company, tracing separate property through a trust, or resolving a spouse’s claim against an entity. Those matters draw on the same fiduciary, valuation, and entity work he handles outside of family court.

Business owners also retain Nathan as outside general counsel for entity formation, operating and shareholder agreements, buy-sell structuring, and asset and stock purchase transactions, with standing counsel relationships spanning technology, analytics, contracting, retail, and service companies. Before joining GRSM, Nathan co-founded a full-service Utah law practice and a nonprofit legal services organization.
