On Dec. 12, Jeff Coons will speak at HarrisMartin's California Asbestos Litigation Conference in Los Angeles. He will discuss the sophisticated user doctrine as applied in different jurisdictions (New York, Massachusetts and the Eastern District of Pennsylvania (MDL)) and the recent California appellate court decision Rollin v. Foster Wheeler, LLC (unpublished).
Panelists will address national decisions that may impact California's "substantial factor" test for causation as well as recent trends in summary judgment motion law. In addition to Coons, panelists will include Linda Tatka, claims director, Asbestos Unit/Historic Claims Department, AZRS-Resolution Service, Fireman's Fund Insurance Co.; Paul W. Kalish, a partner in Crowell & Moring; and Brian Barrow, a shareholder in Simon Greenstone Panatier Bartlett.
