At its May 2 Believe Benefit, United Way of the Bay Area
honored Gordon & Rees founding partner and philanthropist
Stuart M. Gordon with the prestigious Legacy Tocqueville Plaque for his meaningful work in the Bay Area community.

As a leader within United Way of the Bay Area for more than 25 years, Mr. Gordon has championed the organization’s work at Gordon & Rees through the Koko Challenge, which alone raised more than $3.5 million for the community. Gordon & Rees has participated in the Koko Challenge since its inception over

25 years ago and has been recognized as the Bay Area's "Most Philanthropic Law Firm" by United Way of the Bay Area.

Mr. Gordon’s dedication to the community is evidenced in many other ways, including his service as past president and director of The Guardsmen, an organization that raises money to send disadvantaged children to summer camp; chairman of the Juvenile Justice Commission for the City and County of San Francisco; and board member of the Legal Aid Society of San Francisco, San Francisco General Hospital, Wender Weis Foundation for Children, and the San Francisco Boys and Girls Clubs. Mr. Gordon has supported other organizations as well, including Seven Tepees, a partner agency of The Guardsmen that positively impacts the lives of inner-city youth.

In addition to the Legacy Tocqueville Plaque, Mr. Gordon has received numerous recognitions for his service to the community. He received the Hall of Fame Service Award and the Chancellor's Citation for Leadership and Contributions to the University of California at Berkeley, his alma mater. He received the Cal Baseball Excellence in Leadership Award, which is presented each year in Mr. Gordon's name. And he received the Citation Award from the Boalt Hall School of Law Alumni Association of the University of California – the highest honor bestowed upon Boalt alumni – "for his dedication to public service, his contributions to the legal profession, and his support of Berkeley Law."

Mr. Gordon is involved in many organizations at the University of California at Berkeley. His donations have helped make possible the Stuart M. Gordon Moot Courtroom at the Boalt Hall School of Law and the Cal baseball field and outdoor multipurpose complex. He is one of the founders of the Bear Backers, an organization that raises more than $8 million each year to support athletic programs at the university.

Twice in recent years, Mr. Gordon has been named the Carl Van Heuit Cal Baseball Alumnus of the Year, and he serves in an appointed position on the Athletic Director's Advisory Board. He also is a member of the Boalt Hall Campaign Cabinet and has served on the board of directors and as president of the Boalt Hall School of Law Alumni Association.

Mr. Gordon’s many honors for his successful trial record include Top Defense Results of 2013 and an earlier honor for California Litigation Attorney of the Year. He was also presented with the Award of Merit from the Bar Association of San Francisco in 2011 for his critical contributions to BASF’s efforts to address the crisis in court funding for the San Francisco Superior Court and all California courts. He has been selected for inclusion in Best Lawyers in America, Northern California Super Lawyers, and the International and California editions of Who's Who Legal. He also has a Martindale-Hubbell peer review rating of AV Preeminent.

Gordon & Rees – which is celebrating its 40th anniversary this year – congratulates Mr. Gordon on this well-deserved recognition from United Way of the Bay Area.
