San Diego Partner Jason Meyer Featured on NBC’s "Politically Speaking"

Gordon & Rees San Diego partner Jason Meyer was a featured guest on NBC's "Politically Speaking." The show's host, Gene Cubbison, interviewed Meyer about the impacts of legalized marijuana on employment with Proposition 64 - the Adult Use of Marijuana Act - on the California ballot in November.

Meyer's interview was pre-recorded in the San Diego NBC studio on Friday, July 22, 2016. It will air on San Diego's NBC station at 4 p.m. on Sunday, July 24, 2016.

During the interview, Meyer shed light on the potential impacts of legalized marijuana on employers and employees. He explained the laws that enforce marijuana use, and medicinal use, vary from state to state yet, according to the Federal Controlled Substances Act, it is still classified as an illegal Schedule I drug. He also referenced a recent case in Colorado, Coates v. Dish Network, LLC, as an example of the potential challenges employers face with legalized medicinal marijuana use and enforcing drug testing policies. The interview closed with Meyer highlighting the potential risks of discrimination if employers do not have clear uniform drug testing policies that adhere to the current state and federal laws.

Meyer's employment and labor experience includes wage and hour disputes, wrongful termination, harassment, and racial and age discrimination cases.
